Bio Note

Pushkar Anand is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. He studied at the Faculty of Legal Studies, South Asian University, New Delhi for an LL.M. in international legal studies. He obtained his B.A.LL.B (Hons.) from the Chanakya National Law University, Patna. In 2022, he has been awarded the International Research and Training Programme (iRTP) Scholarship by the Commonwealth Government of Australia, to pursue his PhD from Macquarie University, Sydney. His teachings and research are focused on public international law, international investment law, and environmental law. Prior to joining the University of Delhi, he worked with the School of Law, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun, India. Pushkar has also been empanelled as an external expert on investment treaty arbitration matters at the Centre for Trade and Investment Law, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India. 

Pushkar has published articles in leading international journals such as the Journal of International Economic Law, ICSID Review - Foreign Investment Law Journal, Northwestern Journal of International Law and Business, Asia Pacific Law Review, Indian Law Review, and Indian Journal of International Law. He has also published several book chapters in edited collections published by leading international publishers such as Brill Nijhoff, Routledge, and Springer Nature. He regularly contributes op-eds to the leading news portals of India, such as The Hindu, and The Wire. Pushkar actively pursues the government to ensure transparency with respect to investment treaty arbitration and related matters in India. Investment Treaty Arbitration awards such as Louis Dreyfus Armateurs vs. India (Merits & Jurisdictions); Nissan vs. India (Decision on Jurisdiction) have been made public as a result of his right to information requests, and appeals.

Awards and Recognitions

Awarded the Excellence Award for Teachers in Service in Departments/Institutes/Centres for Outstanding Achievement in Research and Academic Activities on 22nd March 2023 by the University of Delhi, India.  

 

Awarded the International Research and Training Programme (iRTP) Scholarship in 2022, by the Commonwealth Government of Australia, to pursue PhD in Law from Macquarie University, Sydney for three years (2022-2025)

 

Awarded 2020 Honourable Mention for the article "Indian Courts and Bilateral Investment Treaty Arbitration" published in Indian Law Review (Routledge, London), Vol. 4(1), by the Indian Law Review Best Article Prize Committee
