Dr. Bipasha Kumar is an Architect–Planner and academician with over three decades of professional and teaching experience, specializing in disaster risk management, urban village transformation, and built environment studies.
She holds a PhD in Urban Planning from SPA New Delhi, an M.Arch. in Architecture Education from Jamia Millia Islamia, and a B.Arch. from MANIT Bhopal, along with Associateship of ITPI.
Her research focuses on disaster risk management, urban villages, built environment quality, pedestrian safety, sustainable urban development and Architectural Pedagogy—reflected in publications in SCOPUS, SCIE, IEEE, UGC-listed journals, and international conference proceedings.
She has presented her work globally, including at Elsevier’s Urban Transitions Conference (2024), Barcelona. Dr. Kumar leads significant funded research such as the STEER 2025 project on real-time risk assessment using ANN for informal industries. Her earlier work with the COA Urban Studio Research Project was shortlisted among the top 10 teams nationally, reinforcing her leadership in practice-led research and urban transformation studies. She received the prestigious RULA – Research Ratna Award (2019) for excellence in disaster-risk research, recognizing the originality and societal relevance of her work. Across her academic career, she has taught at various reputed institutions in Delhi NCR , and have held key leadership positions including Coordinator for the Master of Architecture program, School Coordinator, and Dean of the School of Architecture. Recognized for innovation in the teaching–learning process, Dr. Kumar has championed Outcome-Based Education (OBE), assessment reforms, and research-integrated studio pedagogy. She has served as resource person for multiple COA-TRC Faculty Development Programs, delivering sessions on learning outcomes, experimental research, and paradigm shifts in architecture education. Her contributions include curriculum enhancement, assessment reform, and integrating sustainability, placemaking, and built-environment research into studio methodologies As a convener of major national and international conferences, reviewer for reputed journals, editor of conference proceedings, and PhD supervisor, Dr. Kumar continues to bridge research, practice, and pedagogy—strengthening contemporary architectural education and contributing to resilient, sustainable urban futures.
