Socio-Economic Impact of PM Awas Yojana: A Micro Level Study from Gaya district of Bihar 2023 The study on "Socio-Economic Impact of PM Awas Yojana: A Micro Level Study from Gaya district of Bihar" aims to address the research question: (1) What is the socio-economic impact of PMAY-G on its beneficiaries? (2) To understand the Improvements in the standard of living of PMAY-G beneficiaries? Additionally, (3) what are the challenges faced by the beneficiaries of PMAY in terms of measurement? After receiving the benefits of PMAY-G. The findings and observations derived from the comprehensive analysis of various aspects related to the PMAY-G shed light on its significant impact on the lives of beneficiaries. The housing component of the scheme has successfully transformed the living conditions of recipients, with all now residing in pukka houses. Noteworthy is the distribution of these benefits across different social categories, reflecting a positive shift in housing standards. However, challenges persist, such as the limited impact of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) on toilet provisions, and the need for separate kitchens, which beneficiaries appear to prioritize over the latter. The choice of cooking fuel has also evolved, indicating positive changes in household practices. Additionally, the study reveals that PMAY-G beneficiaries incur additional expenses during house construction, often resorting to loans or personal savings. Social inclusion indicators suggest progress, yet some degree of exclusion persists. Moreover, the PMAY-G has demonstrated a tangible impact on consumption expenditure and household income, showcasing its effectiveness in enhancing overall well-being and financial circumstances. The paired samples t-test outcomes illuminate the multifaceted impact of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin on household expenditures and income. Significantly t-test reveal a positive influence of the program on monthly food, yearly clothing, construction/repairing, education, and health expenditures, indicating improved spending patterns and heightened awareness among beneficiaries. However, Pair 6 suggests no substantial impact on LPG/cooking fuel expenses, while Pair 7 hints at a potential influence on durable goods spending, though not reaching conventional significance levels. The robust analysis of monthly household income demonstrates a noteworthy positive change post-PMAY-G, supported by a highly significant p-value, affirming the program's efficacy in enhancing the financial conditions of surveyed households. In essence, the findings underscore the program's nuanced impact across various expenditure categories and income, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of its outcomes. Overall, the findings underscore the transformative role of PMAY-G, not only in providing housing but also in elevating the socio-economic and living standards of the beneficiaries. 08-09-2023 To 08-03-2024 (6 months)
