Bio Note

Professor Sanjay Kapoor is Head of the Plant Molecular Biology Department and is heading a research group on Plant Reproductive Biology at University of Delhi South Campus. He got his doctorate from the department of Botany in 1992. Then he went to Japan for his Post-doc on a Japanese Government JSPS fellowship. In 1997 he got a job of a Junior Scientist in the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture Forest and Fisheries where he worked untill 2004 before coming back to India and joining Delhi University as an Associate Professor.

His group has worked extensively on regulation of seed development involving differentiation of embryo and endosperm, grain filling and starch formation.

Awards & Distinctions:

He is a fellow of the National Academy of Sciences India and is also an elected member of the Guha Research Conference (GRC).

He has about 70 publications in journals of high impact in plant sciences and a few patents to his credit.

Japanese Government Monbusho Fellowship − 1992

Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellowship − 1995

Japanese Science and Technology Agency Fellowship − 1997

His hobbies include photography and graphics designing; the new purple DU logo designed by Prof. Kapoor has been adopted as the official logo of the University of Delhi since 2014.
