Origin and Culture, History of the Naikopod Tribe of Telangana State | Major | 2023 | The Naikpod Tribe is a lesser known sub-tribal group of Gonds of Telangana State. This specific community was referred in the Aranyaparva and Virataparva in Mahabharatam. The Naikpod’s trace their orgin to the Yeyati Nayaka (referred as the king of forests) as his decedents. The proposed research strives to bring out the origins and history of the Naikpods through a detailed ethnographic study on culture, deities (pradam devudu, bhimanna-panchapandava, gurram muthi) social-political organization, legends and myths, religion, rituals, folklore, language (Telugu yasa-dialect of Telugu language), and their livelihood (agriculture) with reference to medicinal plants. The study will be conducted using anthropological tools of data collection and analysis. In-depth fieldwork will be carried out in 8-districts namely; Nizamabad, Adilabad, Manchiryal, Karimnagar, Warangal, Mulugu, Khammam, Kamareddy of Telangana State. The proposed study is qualitative in nature with following objectives; 1. To understand the origin and culture of Naikpod Tribes of Telangana State. 2. To examine the ancient texts to bring out the references to Naikpods. 3. Social and Political Organization of Naikpod Tribes of Telangana State. 4.
