Prof. (Dr.) Ravinder Singh
Professor, Department of Punjabi, University of Delhi
Prof. (Dr.) Ravinder Singh is a distinguished scholar currently serving as a Professor in the Department of Punjabi at the University of Delhi. He is the recipient of the prestigious Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Gold Medal and the Dr. Bhai Veer Singh Gold Medal. His academic career is defined by a deep engagement with literature, history, and the civilizational context of the Indian subcontinent.
Research Specialization & Academic Leadership
Prof. Singh’s research expertise includes Literary Studies, Civilizational Studies, and Indian Knowledge Traditions (IKT). His work spans Ancient Indian History (Pre-Vedic and Vedic), Sapt Sindhu studies, and Sikh Socio-Cultural and Political Studies.
● IIAS, Shimla: He is a Former Fellow of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, where he completed a fellowship on "Understanding Punjab: Relocating Punjabi Literary Traditions in its Geo-cultural and civilizational context". He has also availed Associateship at the institute six times.
● Funded Projects: He serves as Co-Director of an ICSSR-sponsored collaborative project on "Popular Imaginaries and Discourses on Politics in India".
● UGC Projects: He was the Principal Investigator for a UGC Major Research Project on 'Punjabi Diaspora Literature' and a minor project on 'Indian Narrative Traditions and Punjabi Fiction'.
● Intellectual Movements: He is actively engaged in literary and research activities related to Sikh literature, history, and culture with the Bharatiya Vidya Adhyan Sansthan and Prajna Pravah, a prominent nationwide intellectual movement. He is also involved with the Centre for Social and Cultural Studies (Delhi Chapter).

With a prolific output of 48 books, Prof. Singh has significantly influenced Punjabi criticism and Indian historiography:
● Authored Works: He has authored 24 books in fields including History, Criticism, Poetry, and Travelogues. Notable works include Understanding Punjab: A Geo-cultural and Civilisational Context (2024).
● Edited Volumes: He has edited several critical volumes, such as Revisiting the History of Punjab (2025) and The Topography of Bhakti (2023).
● Research & Conferences: He has published over 50 research papers and presented more than 160 papers at various National and International conferences.
● Translations: Prof. Singh has translated 24 English books into Punjabi, collaborating with institutions like Sahitya Akademi and the National Book Trust (NBT).
Academic Extension, Media & Digital Presence
● Teacher Training: He is a regular contributor to the UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), delivering lectures on Sanatan traditions of Dharma, Darshan, and Sahitya.
● Broadcasting: He served as a News Reader cum Translator in Prasar Bharati for 15 years and anchored the Punjabi literary program "Punjabi Darpan" on Delhi Doordarshan.
