Prof. Tarun K. Das has a long and distinguished career of more than 30 years in academics and is a Professor of Mathematics for more than 15 years. His research interest includes Measure theoretic, Topological and Differentiable Dynamical Systems. He has published many research papers in journals of international repute. He was awarded Research Professorship in 2011 and Research Fellowship during 2007 for collaborative research work at the Chungnam National University, South Korea. He was also recipient of post-doctoral fellowship to work at Department of Mathematics, University of Athens, Greece during 2002. He was awarded Research Associateship at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai and was also recipient of Research Award of the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) Department of Atomic Energy, GoI, and Research Scholarship at School of Mathematics, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai.
Prior to joining University of Delhi (DU) as a Professor in the Department of Mathematics in 2014, he served Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU) for more than 20 years in various capacities including Head of the Department of Mathematics and Vice Dean, Faculty of Science (comprising of various departments including Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Computer Science, Geology, Zoology, Botany and other disciplines). He has also served as Director, Internal Quality Assurance Cell and Coordinators of various Centres at MSU. He has organized many International Conferences / Workshops such as International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS) Program on “Recent Trends in Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems”, in December 2012, International Congress of Mathematicians 2010 Satellite conference on “Various Aspects of Dynamical Systems", in August / September, 2010, wherein more than 70 reputed foreign mathematicians participated including Fields medallist and Abel Prize winner. He has also organised NBHM sponsored “Advanced Training School", and “Mathematics Training and Talent Search Programme”, DST sponsored Workshops and UGC sponsored conferences. He has been part of Editorial Board of various journals including "Recent trends in Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems", Contemporary Mathematics, Volume 631, 258 pages, published by the American Mathematical Society in 2015. He has delivered endowment lectures, plenary lectures, key note addresses and well over 125 invited talks of which 40 of them are in International meetings and conferences.
At DU, Prof. Das has earned vast experience on almost all aspects of academic administration by serving on positions such as Registrar, Chief Vigilance officer and Joint Director, Cluster Innovation Centre and several others. He played key role in some of the historically first at DU such as first ever NAAC assessment of DU in 2018, and earning the prestigious GoI tag “Institution of eminence” for DU. Ensuring flawless implementation of 7th pay commission by incorporating all changes in ordinances and statutes at DU and initiating and implementing several online procedures at DU were some of his stand out contributions.
