D. N. Gupta was born in Alwar, India. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of Rajasthan, India, in 2005. In 2010, he joined the physics faculty in the Department of Physics and Astrophysics, University of Delhi, India. Prior to joining Delhi University, he was a postdoctoral fellow in South Korea. He was at the Advanced Photonics Research Institute, South Korea. Currently, He is working as a Professor with the Department of Physics and Astrophysics, University of Delhi (India). He is also a visiting faculty member at the Department of Physics and Photon Sciences, GIST, South Korea. He has guided 11 Ph.D. students and published over 150 research papers in the Journal of International Reputation. He has research collaborations with several world-renowned research institutes. He has been an INSA visiting fellow to work with Strathclyde University, UK. He has also been a DAAD visiting Fellow to work with HZDR, Dresden (Germany). He has completed several research projects funded by various national and international agencies. His field of research is laser-plasma interaction with applications to laser wakefield acceleration, proton acceleration, and electromagnetic radiation generation. Prof. Gupta is a Member of the American Physical Society (APS), Member of IEEE, Member of the Association of Asia Pacific Physical Societies-Division of Plasma Physics, Life Member of Plasma Science Society of India (PSSI) and Life Member- Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA).

He has been conferred the Sodha PSSI Plasma Award 2023 to recognise his significant research contributions in plasma physics through publications in reputed journals in plasma physics. He is a member of the Academic Council, Central University of Sikkim. He is also a member of the Board of Studies at the Central University of Himachal Pradesh, the Central University of Sikkim, and the South Asian University, New Delhi.
