Plant Biotechnology, Plant Abiotic Stress, Cell and Molecular Biology

Prof. Purty is a Professor at the University School of Bio-Technology, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi. Dr. Purty joined GGSIPU in 2007 and was promoted to Associate Professor and then to Professor  in 2022.

Prof Ram Singh Purty holds a strong academic background with a Ph.D. in Botany from the University of Delhi (1998–2005), an M.Sc. in Biotechnology from the University of Calicut (1996–1998), and a B.Sc. (Botany Hons.) from BJB College, Bhubaneswar, Utkal University (1993–1996).

He was awarded BOYSCAST fellowship from DST, New Delhi (2010–2011). Prof Purty works on Plant Abiotic stress.

His research focuses on understanding molecular mechanisms that enable plants to tolerate abiotic stresses such as drought, extreme temperatures, salinity, and heavy metal toxicity, all of which trigger oxidative stress and disrupt cellular homeostasis, severely affecting plant growth and productivity. His team employs transcriptome profiling to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) responsive to stress, followed by isolation, characterization, and functional validation of key candidate genes involved in abiotic stress tolerance.
